Helen says Britons are more than just villains

Helen-MirrenHelen Mirren is disappointed with Hollywood's practice of casting British actors in negative roles only.

She said in a statement that it's very unfortunate that villain in every movie is always a British. During an event to celebrate the British success in Hollywood, she said that Britons are easy targets to be cast as villains.

It should be noted that from George Sanders as Sher Khan in animation series, The Jungle Book to Peter Cushing's slipped vowels in Star Wars the English accent has become an essential part of Hollywood baddies.

Mirren told to a fan in LA that there's more to being British than diabolical schemes and acid put-downs.

Hollywood had seen many Britons playing the baddies in recent times. The recent list includes Sir Lan McKellen's role of the villainous Magneto in the X-Men films, Paul Bettany as Silas in The Da Vinci Code and Alfred Molina as Dr Ottotavius in Spider-Man-2, while the older examples include Steven Berkoff and Jeremy Irons in Beverly Hills and The Lion King respectively.
