Hepatitis Outbreak: 8 New Cases Reported In Gujarat’s Sabarkantha RegionAccording to fresh reports, eight more cases of hepatitis have come to light in Sabarkantha district of Gujarat.

The fresh cases were registered from Modasa and other talukas of the region.

But, the state health officials are leaving no stone unturned to make sure that no other person dies because of this lethal viral disease.

Confirming the development, H S Patel, chief district health officer said, “No deaths have been reported from any part of the district. While 8 new cases have been admitted from the Modasa, Meghraj and Idar talukas.”

With this the total number of people infected with hepatitis has gone up to 209 in the state, of which 57 have died and 62 have been cured.

The infected (around 90) are undergoing treatment in different hospitals of the state districts.

Meanwhile, the health officials continued to attack on those who violate biomedical waste disposal norms, across the state.

The officials raided and sealed 13 godowns on Monday. Biomedical waste was stored in these godowns.

The Rajkot Municipal Corporation today found more than 300 kg biomedical waste from 7 private hospitals in the city. The corporation collected Rs 40,000 as fine from them, however, no police complaints were made.

In Junagadh area too health functionaries swooped upon different private health clinics and scrape traders and recovered a big amount of biomedical waste.

Apart from this, the state government earlier registered an FIR against 8 physicians for negligence of the hepatitis-B eruption. Around 3 were arrested for using unsterilised and used syringes, which was considered to be the cause of the outbreak.
