Microsoft India declared that from Wednesday hotmail users shall receive free SMS alerts without GPRS connection.

Microsoft India said that in order to facilitate this service , Hotmail users just need to log on to mobile.live.com, enter their mobile number and verification code received on mobile, after doing the prescribed process, the service will be activated.

A very noticeable benefit provided by the company is that it facilitates the user to access their mail account just like checking their SMS’s and save their time to go to cyber café or log on to computer each time to check their mails.

The company also said that user will be provided with the facility to receive, read and reply to emails on their SMS. This service will also offer users to view emails with their proper email address/domain from which they would like to receive alerts on your SMS.

It was found that in India 506 million people are using mobiles but only 18 million have activated GPRS on their mobiles, with 4% of people are accessing email through their mobiles.

Hotmail alert on SMS is the breakthrough for this technology and will encourage the users to access their email accounts through their handsets.
