India appeals against Shivendra’s ban

India appeals against Shivendra’s banAfter Shivendra Singh got a ban for the alleged level 2 offence, the Indian hockey team management has officially filed an appeal to overturn the ban against him.

In a match where the local team registered a mind-boggling 4-1 win in the inaugural match of the FIH world cup against the arch-rival Pakistan, Shivendra Singh got a ban from The International Hockey Federation.

The Federation handed out the ban after an incident where Singh clashed with Pakistan player Fareed as his stick hit Fareed's leg in the fourth minute of the second-half. However, the video footage shows that it not deliberately done and was rather just an accident.

The International Hockey Federation believes that Shivendra has committed a level 2 offence which is applied in cases of physical assault without serious injury.

While Singh will miss the friendly match against Australia but the Indian hockey team management has already appealed requesting the International hockey Federation to overturn the ban. Singh also didn't plead guilty in the post match hearing session saying it wasn't a deliberate attempt as he was going for the ball.
