India may extend BlackBerry deadline

BlackBerryThe government has confirmed that India might consider the extension of the deadline of 31st August given to Research In Motion, within which period it is supposed to offer access to the encrypted messages and emails by the Indian Security agency, if the firm based in Canada manufacturing Blackberry handsets declares that it has some answer to the problem and thus will need some extra time to develop it.

But the final decision is yet to be taken while the company has adopted the last possible measure to avert the blockage of its messages and email services and has put forth the setting up of an industry forum to take care of the matter relating to the security questions raised by India.

Indian authorities have asked for access to encoded messages and emails as it is being suspected that without any inspection the service might be used to cause threat to the security by some militant attack.

The problem being faced by RIM is that it does not have any access or side access to let others have access to the security key that is generated by the consumer only as a part of the Blackberry safekeeping feature.
