India, Pakistan and US surrounded by common enemy: Holbrooke

India, Pakistan and US surrounded by common enemy: HolbrookeIslamabad, July 22 : US Special Envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke has said India, Pakistan and the United States face a common enemy, and that a joint effort is needed to crush the threat facing the region.

Addressing a press conference here, Holbrooke said: “India, Pakistan and the US are surrounded by a common enemy. We need to combat terror jointly.”

Promising an aid of 165 billion dollars to Pakistan to help combat terror, Holbrooke said: “Pakistan is surrounded by terror. We need to address the problem together.”

Responding to a query regarding former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf, he rejected reports that the US may side by him.

Holbrooke said Musharraf is history now and Washington will not come to defend him.

He termed Musharraf’s case as “Pakistan’s internal issue” and said that the US respects Pakistan’s judiciary and free press. Holbrooke, who is on a three-day visit to Pakistan, also ruled out any military interference in the country.

Talking to a delegation of Malakand and Swat based welfare organizations earlier in the day, Holbrooke said there is no US army presence in Pakistan nor does his country wants any US military action.

Holbrooke is also likely to visit New Delhi on his trip to the region. (ANI)
