India’s computer sales rise 15.7 percent in first quarterThe total Personal Computer sales have recorded an increase of 15.7 percent to 2.86 million units during the first quarter of eth financial year in the Indian market.

During the financial quarter from April to June 2012, the companies sold a total of 2.86 million units of personal computers in the country, which is 8.6 percent higher than the previous quarter, according to international research firm IDC.

IDC Senior Analyst Kiran Kumar pointed out that the demand from consumer remained strong even after some issues with the cost of the products and this helped in increasing the total sales of PCs in the Indian market during the quarter.

He added that the shipments for the ELCOT project in Tamil Nadu also helped boost growth in the commercial PC market during the quarter. Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (Elcot) had placed an order for over nine lakh laptops and Lenovo was among the biggest supplier chosen besides Acer and HCL for the project.

According to new estimates, Lenovo leads the market with a 17.1 percent market share, HP surpassed to claim the second position with a 13.7 percent market share. Dell slipped to the third spot with a market share of 13.4 percent during the quarter.
