Indonesian police seize 6 kilograms heroin, arrest two

Jakarta, IndonesiaJakarta- Indonesian police seized more than 6 kilograms of heroin and arrested two people in one of the biggest drug hauls in the country this year, police said Friday.

The heroin was seized when police raided a house in the eastern Jakarta suburb of Cipinang on Thursday night, said Brigadier General Harry Montolalu, director of the anti-drugs unit at national police headquarters.

Two Indonesian citizens, identified as Hervina and her alleged drug courier Arif, were arrested in the raid, while police were still hunting two other suspects, believed to be members of a drugs syndicate, Montolalu said.

In addition to the 6.1 kilograms of heroin, police also seized 1,761 ecstasy pills and 561 grams of crystal methamphetamine, locally known as shabu-shabu and internationally known as ice, with a total street value of up to 10 billion rupiah (91,000 dollars), the afternoon daily Suara Pembaruan reported.

Indonesian authorities last month arrested two Chinese nationals and five locals, seizing 10 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine in Jakarta.

In late February, Indonesian police arrested five foreigners - three Taiwanese, a Singaporean and a Dutch national - and one Indonesian, suspected to be members of an international drug syndicate. Police seized 600,000 ecstasy pills worth up to 6.4 million dollars. (dpa)
