Internet site to give away money in streets of Paris

parisien-aujourdParis - A French commercial internet site has come up with an interesting way of advertising itself, giving away money, the daily Le Parisien reported Thursday.

On November 14, the site Mailorama. fr will hand out 5,000 purses, each one containing a publicity flyer and a bill worth between 5 and 500 euros (7.37 to 737 dollars), at three select bus stops in Paris.

According to the company, it will give away "tens of thousands of euros" in three hours. The windfalls will be handed out at "sites representative of the capital" by attractive hostesses traveling by bus through the city.

Mailorama works as an intermediary between internet commerces and Web shoppers and counts more than one million members. The attention the stunt will attract is precisely what the company wants.

What it does not want is a riot. To keep the peace, 15 security agents have been hired.

And to defuse any moral controversy, "a large sum of money will be given to two charities," said Stephane Boukris, the young public relations specialist who conceived the idea. (dpa)
