Jackals bite over 50 villagers in Bihar

Jackals bite over 50 villagers in BiharPatna, Nov 6 - More than 50 people have been bitten by jackals during the last one week in Bihar's Samastipur district, police said Friday.

Jackals attacked nearly a dozen villagers Thursday in Bargama village and other neighbouring villages under Khanpur block of Samastipur, about 100 km from state capital Patna.

"The jackals on the prowl have created havoc in some villages. They have seriously injured dozens in the last few days," an official in the district administration said.

A police officer said villagers were apprehending more attacks by the animals and some of them have even moved away from their villages.

Last month, jackals injured half a dozen villagers in neighbouring Vaishali district.

Shortage of anti-rabies medicines in government-run hospitals has aggravated the problem. (IANS)
