Los Angeles - Michael Jackson has sold 9 million albums worldwide since his June 25 death, according to figures released Thursday by Nielsen Soundscan.
Some 2.3 million copies were sold in the US, where Jackson's music has been retopping the charts since his death. His hits have scored again in France, Australia, Germany and Britain, with his worldwide popularity prompting increased speculation about the potential for his record companies to issue some of the many unreleased songs that he recorded.
MTV News quoted Jackson's former boss at Sony, Tony Mottola, as saying that the possibilities for new releases are "endless" and stretch all the way back to the singer's heyday in the 1980s.
More recently he completed collaborations with Will. I. Am and Akon. Jackson also recorded several unreleased tracks with Freddie Mercury, the late frontman of Queen, the report said.(dpa)
