Jansen sidelined with a flu, Trochowski likely replacement

Jansen sidelined with a flu, Trochowski likely replacement Cardiff, Wales - Marcell Jansen was sidelined with a flu for Germany's World Cup qualifier with Wales set for later Wednesday, with SV Hamburg team-mate Piotr Trochowski expected to take his place in midfield.

Jansen returned to Germany after team doctors determined that he was unable to play. Jansen played and scored in Germany's 4-0 against Liechtenstein on Saturday, a match that Trochowski missed due to injury.

But Trochowski joined the team on Sunday and is the likely option for coach Joachim Loew in Cardiff. Trochowski scored the 1-0 winner in the teams' first meeting last autumn.

Germany top qualifying Group 4 with 13 points, four points ahead of Russia who have played one game less. Only the group winner qualifies directly for the 2010 finals in South Africa. (dpa)
