Jordanian premier makes relationship-building trip to SyriaAmman - Jordanian Prime Minister Nader Dahabi flew to Damascus Thursday as part of Amman's recent intensive effort to bolster ties with Syria and other Arab countries.

The visit, the second of its type by high-ranking Jordanian officials over the past month, is designed to improve ties with Syria which had soured following Amman's decision to send a low-level delegate to the Arab Summit in Damascus earlier this year.

Dahabi told the lower house of parliament on Wednesday that his trip to Damascus was part of a policy "to strengthen ties with Arab countries," also citing King Abdullah II's visit to Qatar next week.

He said that he would be joined by a other officials and a private sector delegation to discuss means of enhancing bilateral trade with Syria, a regional electricity interconnectivity project and issues relating to the Wihdah Dam, which the two countries had built over the Yarmouk River. (dpa)
