Kambli calls it quits

Vinod KambliIndian batsman Vinod Kambli has drawn curtains on his cricketing career, saying he has decided to quit from the international cricket on Sunday.

He will continue to make himself available for domestic selection.

The 37-year old cricketer made the announcement at the inauguration of his sports academy - Khel Bharati.

The academy was inaugurated by Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag.

Kambli's coach, Ramakant Acharekar, who also coached Kambli school-mate Sachin Tendulkar, was also present on this occasion.

However, he made it clear that his childhood buddy and master-blaster batsman Tendulkar could not come because of his preceding schedules.

Speaking on this occasion, Kambli said: "I would like to thank everyone who have been involved in one way or the other in my cricketing career, especially Achrekar sir and Sachin (Tendulkar)."

Kambli who played 17 Tests for India, scored 1084 runs at an average of 54.20.

In 104 ODI's, Kambli scored 2477 runs with an average of 32.59.

He played his last match for India in October 2000 at Sharjah, against Sri Lanka.
