Karnataka legislature session begins today

Bangalore, June 4: The three-day legislature session of the newly elected Karnataka State Assembly will begin today.

The House will devote the opening day for oath taking by the members and election of Speaker on June 5.

The session will commence with Governor Rameshwar Thakur address to the joint session of both the houses of the State legislature.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa will seek the trust vote on June 6 in compliance with a directive by Governor Thakur to prove majority on the floor of the House.

The direction came in the wake of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which stormed to power in the state, failing to garner simple majority of 113 and cobbling up the required numbers with the help of six independents.

BJP won 110 seats out of 224 while Congress bagged 80 and JD-S 28 in the Assembly polls. (ANI)
