Kolkata airport medical officers identify "swine flu" symptoms in two travelers  The medical officers at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata (West Bengal) on late Wednesday put a NRI woman and her son under forced isolation, when they found the two showing symptoms of swine flu.

The medical officers identified the symptoms of swine flu in the 43-year-old Sushmita Biswas and her 21-month-old son Gibson, who got off a Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt.

The airport doctors conducted mandatory medical check-up of Sushmita Biswas and Gibson, who were flying from Canada, a flu-affected country. The doctors found that Gibson had fever and a running nose, while his mother had no fever, but she had symptoms of flu. The mother and the sun were rushed Beliaghata ID Hospital.

A B Dey, the medical officer at the airport, said, "As the duo was returning from Canada, a flu-affected country, we quarantined them.” Dey told that Sushmita Biswas and Gibson arrived on the Lufthansa flight LH 750 late on Wednesday night and they showed “flu-like symptoms” and were rushed to the Infectious Diseases (ID) Hospital here at Beliaghata.

The Hospital confirmed that Sushmita Biswas and Gibson were admitted to the swine flu ward and their throat swabs have been sent for testing to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases in New Delhi.

Aniruddha Kar, state director of health services, said, "Throat swabs of both have been sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune, for tests. The results are expected in two days.”
