Kolkata's Missionaries of Charity celebrates Xmas

Kolkata's Missionaries of Charity celebrates XmasKolkata, Dec.25: Sisters dressed in white and blue are always busy, running from one home to the other, and not having time for celebrations of any sort.

But come Christmas, and the mood at the Missionaries Of Charity, home for the destitute founded here by Nobel Laureate Mother Teresa, is different.

Here, the occasion is a time for celebration. Sisters of the order decorate the entire home with colorful paper chains, stars, bells, and Christmas trees and obviously with Santa Claus.

A spokesperson for the Missionaries of Charity, Sister Christie, said: “Christmas is celebrated with high spirit and joy in MoC. Christmas is the time to spread the message of god’s love for common people. We invite children and common people on this day. We also believe it’s a day for giving.”

“This day signifies that God loves common people so much that he sent his only son to this world for their service,” she added.

Christmas celebration started at Mother House on Christmas Eve. Sisters and volunteers of the home performed a play on Jesus Christ’s birth and his service to mankind. On Monday night, sisters at all MoC-managed homes recited a special Christmas prayer.

For Christmas, Mother Teresa’s tomb located below the home was also decorated with beautiful flowers.

Prayers will continue all day Tuesday. (ANI)
