L.A. Noire available for PS3 and Xbox 360
The 'L. A. Noire' game, which has been featuring on gaming forum since months and has built a base of many anticipated gamers waiting to get their hands on the title, is now available for Sony’s Play Station 3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360.
The main character in the new game is Detective Cole Phelps, who has the looks, sounds and movements like that of the actor Aaron Staton. For more than three months, the actor delivered a special face and voice performance while surrounded by a sophisticated 360-degree, high-definition cameras.
The millions of pictures taken during these three months were painted onto a three-dimensional character. The body movements were recorded from a separate motion-capture session.
The game developer tried to base the came on real-life crimes and investigations relating to L. A.'s infamous unsolved Black Dahlia murder in 1947. "It quickly became evident that the truth is far stranger than fiction. I think it makes not only the atmosphere but the stories more believable," said McNamara.
Players lead Phelps to solve more than 20 cases and work with LAPD patrol unit, traffic, homicide, vice and arson squads. The players decide if the witnesses and suspects are telling Phelps the truth.
McNamara had hired an air traffic control software developer, Oliver Bao. "I said, 'This is the problem I have got. I want to make people real.' He said, 'You might be slightly crazy, but it might be achievable,'" says McNamara.
Experts say that technology used in the game will set a new standard in the industry and could change the way the games are developed.
