Beirut  - Lebanon has officially asked the international police organization Interpol to help with the investigation of the murder of a Lebanese singer who was killed earlier in the week in the United Arab Emirates, Lebanese judicial sources said Saturday.

The body of Suzzane Tamim was discovered Monday in her apartment in the Dubai Marina area by a cousin and a police officer.

According to judicial sources, the office of Lebanese Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar said that Lebanon has decided to ask Interpol in Dubai for assistance.

Tamim was stabbed and decapitated. Najjar added that it appeared she had tried to resist the attacker.

The singer was 31 years old.

Tamim, who has been living in Dubai for the past few months, had differences with her husband Adel Maatouk.

In a statement issued by Maatouk and published in most Lebanese newspapers, he said he wanted his wife to stop singing and devote her time to the family after their marriage.

He claimed Tamim's family told her not to listen to him and to leave his house.

Despite his objections to her leaving the country, he said that she left Lebanon against his wishes, and that her family bears the responsibility for what happened to her. (dpa )
