Lemony Snicket and Lisa Brown Pledge $1 Million to Planned Parenthood

Author of a number of children’s book Lemony Snicket said that he and his wife are donating $1 million to Planned Parenthood. Lemony Snicket whose original name is Daniel Handler, made the announcement this week on his Twitter feed.

Snicket on his Twitter feed, @DanielHandler wrote that the donation to the women’s health care provider is o behalf of him and his wife. He said that they’ve been very fortunate and thought this good fortune should be shared with noble causes.

It is known that the house Republicans in Washington have been trying hard to cut off federal funding for Planned Parenthood and have threatened a government shutdown over the issue.
They cite Planned Parenthood’s practice of supplying tissue from aborted fetuses for scientific research.

The NY Times reported that the announcement was made the day before the congressional hearing and has been widely shared the last two days by supporters and critics alike.

But the Planned Parenthood defends its practice as the legal donation of tissue to research firms. It says that the not-for-profit tissue donation programs support lifesaving scientific research.

The announcement of the donation has come after a series of unfortunate events for Planned Parenthood. After the couple’s announcement Planned Parenthood thanked them on twitter and many supporters also expressed support and gratitude.

Planned Parenthood has been receiving heavy backlash from anti-abortion activists after videos they claimed were manipulated were released, reportedly showing the organization illegally selling fetal tissues.

A social media campaign has also been waged with the hashtag #standwithPP to spread support. Several Facebook users showed their support by turning profile pictures pink on Tuesday declaring it #PinkOut day.

"This year, Planned Parenthood has gone through a series of unfortunate events, and it felt right to make our support more public and more dramatic.”
