Mahindra Satyam seeks refunds over inflated figures

MahindrasatyamAs the fourth largest IT major in the country, Mahindra Satyam is still on its way to get the once defunct Satyam Computer Services back on track, the company has recently written to the Ministry of Company Affairs to return the tax paid by the IT giant on the inflated figures.

For the uninitiated, Satyam's founder Ramalinga Raju accepted that the company has inflated figures in January 2009 accepting a financial fraud. Be it the non-existent cash and bank balance of Rs 5,040 crore and an accrued interest of Rs. 376 crore, the company created one of the biggest financial frauds in the history of India Inc. The list of inflated claims even doesn't ends here as the company filed a understated liability of Rs 1,230 crore and an overstated debtors of Rs 490 crore (as against Rs 2,651 crore).

Though, the company hasn't given any clarity on what kind of funds the IT major is looking to collect from the government but it is estimated that the return will stand up to the tune of Rs. 300 crore. However, government's reaction is still pending in the matter.
