Market Ends Flat After Lackluster Trade

Bombay Stock ExchangeAfter touching an intraday high of 15,683.03 and low of 15,524.68, the BSE Sensex finally settled at 15,565.55 after making a gain of 15.42 points, whereas the broad-based NSE Nifty ended at 4,566.05, up 3.95 points.

Today, the BSE sensitive index opened at a new high of 15,625.63, and it moved to trade sturdily backed by strong buying interest in index pivotals and was rangebound in the afternoon trades. Select stocks from auto and pharma traded mixed, while cement and banking led the declines.

Inflation remained unaffected at 4.27% in the week ended Jul. 7, 2007.

Out of the total 2,660 shares traded, 912 furthered, 1,693 turned down, while 55 remained unaltered. Among the sectoral indices, BSE Metal arose 1.48%, BSE Realty ascended 1.60%, whereas BSE Consumer Durables rejected 1.44%, BSE IT slumped 0.71%, BSE Auto refused 0.43% and BSE Bankex passed up 0.70%

Leaders at the BSE were Tata Steel that climbed 4.84% to Rs 715.25, L&T came up 4.15% to Rs 2, 475.30 and Bharti Airtel heightened 3.03% to Rs 922.95. M&M, Reliance Comm., HDFC and Dr Reddy`s were some of the other gainers.

Laggards at the BSE include ACC that declined 3.75% to close at Rs 1,107.20, Bajaj Auto rejected 2.30% to Rs 2,326.95 and Cipla declined 2.21% to finish at Rs 200.90. Ambuja Cement, Hindalco, Hindustan Unilever and Satyam also slipped.

Spice Telecom topped the BSE volume chartbusters list with 15.82 million shares being traded, followed by Rashtriya Chemicals with 5.79 million shares, Neyveli Lignite with 3.73 million shares and Exide Industries with 3.69 million shares.
