McCain’s daughter says Republican Party not tech savvy

Meghan Mccain, John MccainWashington, Feb. 20 : Arizona Senator and 2008 Republican presidential candidate John McCain's daughter Meghan has said that the GOP is not tech savvy, and therefore continues to lag behind the Democrats as far as the world wide web is concerned.

"The Republican Party isn't exactly Internet savvy. That's no secret," McCain wrote in a post on The Daily Beast.

McCain said that while blogging on her father's presidential campaign, she "got the sense that people on the campaign thought I was wasting my time."

"Unless the GOP evolves as the party that can successfully utilize the Web, we'll continue to lose influence. I think nothing confirms this fact to be more true than this recent election," Politico quotes her, as saying.

"When I first suggested launching a blog chronicling my experience on my father''s campaign for president, I was met with confusion and resistance. A few people even asked me, `What's a blog?'"

She pointed to Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) as someone the GOP should learn from, calling his presidential campaign's Internet operation "mind-blowing."

McCain also said the Obama administration has demonstrated that it "understands my generation" by effectively communicating online.

"President Obama currently has around five and a half million supporters on Facebook," she wrote. "My father has around 500,000." (ANI)
