Meghalaya CM Lapang resigns

Shillong: Meghalaya Meghalaya Chief Minister D D LapangChief Minister D D Lapang has resigned just before undertaking a floor test in the assembly, saying his government is unable to project a majority.

Lapang told reporters after a Congress Legislature Party meeting on Wednesday morning, “I am going to submit my resignation to Governor S S Sidhu. The Congess Legislative Party (CLP) decided to resign due to lack of requisite support.”

“Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA) is a bundle of contradictions and will last only three months, and I am sure that the Congress will be back," he added.

National Congress (NCP) Leader, P A Sangma said, the MPA would meet at noon before moving forward to stake a claim to form the new government in the state, the swearing in of which is likely to be held this evening. (ANI)
