Men's World Cup slalom cancelled

Val d'Isere, France  - Gusty winds and heavy snowfall forced organizers to cancel a men's World Cup slalom ski race on Sunday.

Organizers said that the safety of skiers, officials and spectators could not be guaranteed in the adverse conditions.

The ruling body FIS said it was looking into a replacement date and venue. There was speculation that the race could be staged on December 22 in Alta Badia, Italy, where a giant slalom is scheduled for December 21.

The men's World Cup continues with a super-g and downhill in Val Gardena, Italy, on Friday and Saturday. (dpa)
