According to a new report, Microsoft is asking chipmakers planning to use newer version of the windows for tablet computes to choose to work with no more than one computer manufacturer.

The company is planning to offer incentives to chipmakers and computer makers, which accept the conditions pinning one chipmaker to a single tablet design, according to some people close to the matter. The new restrictions will allow the company to speed the delivery of new Windows tablets and keep a tight control on partners.

Even as the restrictions are not compulsory, they will restrict chipmakers and computer makers from creating a variety of Windows-based models to compete with rival models.

“Microsoft is still in the development process on the next version of Windows, continuing the engineering work with our silicon partners as part of the technology preview we talked about in January,” Microsoft said in an e-mailed statement.

The company also said that it talks regularly with hardware partners around the world under its development program.
