Mixed response to Bharat Bandh calls from oppositionA nationwide bandh called by the NDA and Left parties have received only a mixed response in the country today.

The strike has been called to protest the hike in petrol prices in the country. The government is facing increasing pressure from its allies, the Opposition and the public over the hike in fuel prices. The opposition has warned that it might go on a nation-wide strike over a hike of Rs 7.50 in the prices of petrol.

There were incidents of stone pelting, arson and road blockades in Karnataka, Maharashtra and West Bengal today in support of the band called by the opposition parties, who are demanding a roll back of the hike.

Even as NDA party workers and supporters blocked roads in parts of the national capital, Delhi, the response can be best described as mixed and the traffic was active many parts remained open. In Mumbai, some bandh supporters pelted stones at buses and other parts of Maharashtra also remained tensed.

Meanwhile, Fuel companies are scheduled to review petrol prices in the company on May 31. The company had raised the price of petrol by 6.28 rupees a litre excluding taxes, which led to an increase of about Rs 7.50 across the country.
