Ms. Roxon Appreciates Plain Packaging Policy at UN Conference on NCDs
Federal Health Minister Nicola Roxon has appealed for implementation of severe measures to control smoking rates worldwide at the UN's NCDs meet. In the conference on non-communicable disease, Ms. Roxon stressed on negotiating with the various cigarette producing brands worldwide to control the cigarette consumption.
The conference focused on implementing certain effective measures to control the occurrence of non-communicable diseases like cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Ms. Roxon presented example of Australia Government, which was the fight to implement plain packaging policy on all the cigarette brands in the nation.
She revealed about the heated up situation in Australia where tiff between the government and cigarette producing companies seems to have no end but once the policy is imposed, it will be a major landmark on the path of reducing popularity of cigarette smoking among people.
Ms. Roxon revealed about the every possible move taken by the tobacco producers to discard the implementation of the policy of plain packaging. Also, a discussion on the proposal of selling cigarettes in olive-brown packages is due to take place at the Australian Senate.
"We can share this information, we can support each other, we can make sure that everyone knows what's going on in other countries", states Ms. Roxon.
