MTNL launches 3G mobile TV streaming service

MTNL launches 3G mobile TV streaming serviceThe leading telecom company of the country, MTNL has announced to introduce India’s first 3G-based mobile TV streaming service. The French communications solutions provider Alcatel-Lucent and the Delhi-based IPTV service provider Aksh Optifibre will provide the service jointly.

Aksh Optifibre is an optical network solution provider which provides Fibre to the Home (FTTH) solution, broadband, IPTV and VoIP services in the metro cities. According to MTNL, this new service will be available for the MTNL subscribers in Delhi and Mumbai.

Alcatel-Lucent will provide its Packet Video Streaming Server to enable this mobile TV service. This will be a platform to video services on 2.5G and 3G networks. This solution can be applied for monetizing the mobile TV service with open interfaces that enable ad insertion for any mobile video application.

Spokesperson from Alcatel-Lucent has informed Telecom Yatra that the country is going to experience the 3G-based streaming service for the first time and his company has the opportunity to provide the service to the Indian customers.

He has also informed that Aksh Optifibre will be working on ad insertion solutions with its existing IPTV service i-control. This will allow multiple ways of ad insertion.
