Mumbai firm runs Ahmedabad BRTS

Mumbai firm runs Ahmedabad BRTSAhmedabad’s BRTS, launched in October and billed as India’s first full such project, is run using systems designed by a Mumbai firm.

“This is considered India’s first full-fledged BRTS project because Delhi and Pune do not have systems like a dedicated control room, IT backups and dedicated buses,” a senior official said.

Mumbai-based Kaizen, which developed the common ticketing system for BEST buses and the city’s suburban trains, designed the software that manages automatic fare collection, vehicle tracking, and passenger information in Ahmedabad.

Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited (AJL), which runs Ahmedabad’s BRTS, is also mulling a website that can plan your journey, tell you which feeder buses are available from which stops, and indicate what time your bus will arrive.

Feeder buses will take you to the nearest BRTS stop, and operate within a 2-km radius of the BRTS corridor. The website will be linked with a Global Positioning System interface in the AJL control room. SMS information for commuters is also being planned.
