Musician Goran Bregovic injured in freak accident

Goran Bregovic Belgrade  - One of the former Yugoslavia's best-known musicians, Goran Bregovic, severely injured his spine in a fall from a tree Thursday, B92 reported.

Bregovic fell four metres from a cherry tree in a posh quarter of Belgrade. His neck injuries were listed as severe but not life- threatening by the Belgrade emergency clinic.

No other details were immediately available.

The Bosnian-born Bregovic, 58, fronted Yugoslavia's rock group Bijelo Dugme as lead guitarist, laying the foundations for the Yugoslav and Balkan rock scene in the
1970s.

He rose to international fame with his film music, doing scores for Emir Kusturica's acclaimed Time of the Gypsies, Arizona Dream and Underground, as well as for Patrice Chereau's La Reine Margot and others. (dpa)
