New Zealanders advised against travel to Indonesia

New Zealanders advised against travel to IndonesiaWellington - New Zealanders were warned Saturday against travelling to parts of Indonesia where three Islamic militants involved in the Bali bombings that killed 202 people, mainly tourists, in 2002, are expected to be executed any day.

Indonesian police said they had found bombs suspected to have been prepared for a retaliatory attack after the bombers, Mukhlas, his brother Amrozi, and Imam Samudra, go before a firing squad.

Indonesia's Attorney-General Hendarman Supandji confirmed Friday that the executions would be held on Nusakambangan Island, in Central Java, between November
1-15.

New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said the executions could prompt demonstrations and violence and advised against all travel to Maluku and central Sulawesi, where the bombs were found, calling them areas of "extreme risk."

It also advised tourists to avoid the capital, Jakarta, Bali, Batam and Bintan, saying they had a high risk to security for New Zealanders. (dpa)
