Nine teenagers held responsible for the death of Massachusetts teenager

Nine teenagers held responsible for the death of Massachusetts teenager Authorities have informed that nine youths were charged Monday in the death of a Massachusetts teenager, said to have killed herself, after being bullied mercilessly.

The Boston Globe has reported that Northwestern District Attorney Elizabeth Scheibel said the charges in the Jan. 14 death of Phoebe Prince of South Hadley ranged from statutory rape to civil rights violations to criminal
harassment and disturbing a school assembly. The suspects included six teenagers ages 16-18 and three younger juveniles.

Scheibel said, "Their conduct far exceeded the limits of normal teenage relationship-related quarrels.''

The Globe further reported that Prince allegedly was bullied by her classmates at South Hadley High School for months and then committed suicide two days before a school dance.

Scheibel said, "From information known to investigators thus far, it appears that Phoebe's death on Jan. 14 followed a tortuous day for her, in which she was subjected to verbal harassment and threatened physical abuse.''

According to the further reports of Globe, the abuse that day allegedly was related to her dating a particular boy. It allegedly occurred in the school library, in school hallways and on the street as she walked home. A faculty
member and other students allegedly witnessed some of it but didn't report the abuse to administrators. (With Inputs from Agencies)
