Nissan GT-R is world's fastest accelerating four-seater

Nissan GT-R is world's fastest accelerating four-seater Nuerburgring, Germany  - Nissan's GT-R supercar has made it into the Italian edition of the Guinness Book of World Records as the fastest-accelerating four-seater series production car on the planet.

The Japanese sportster set a world record for the sprint from 0-100 kilometres an hour (62 mph) in 3.5 seconds, the European arm of Nissan announced. The unmodified, out-of-the-box car car was powered by the standard V6 bi-turbo engine which generates 486 horsepower.

Nissan claims the GT-R also holds the record for completing a circuit of the renowned Nuerburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany. The fastest time of 7 minutes, 26 seconds was achieved during testing in April of this year.

The production version of the Nissan GT-R made its debut at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show and was launched in Europe a year later.

Some performance claims for the GT-R have been disputed in the past by German rivals Porsche. The Stuttgart maker said it carried out a set of sprint tests with a stock version of the Nissan sportster which failed to outperform its own 911 Turbo and GT2 models. (dpa)
