Tots on the trail
While most youngsters enjoy city life and dote on music, art, fashion and all other things associated to popular culture, two young girls — Lindy Wolhuter (eleven) and Penny Wolhuter (nine) — are content with living off the blessings of mother Earth. Presently they are hosting a show called the Safari Sisters on Animal Planet with their father Kim Wolhuter who is an Emmy-Award-winning wildlife filmmaker.
Lindy, the elder of the two aspires to be a gymnast, a ballet teacher and a wildlife filmmaker, like her father. "My favourite animal is the leopard. It's got beautiful spots. I love vultures as well, despite many people thinking that they are crazy creatures," she says. Penny on the other hand loves acting and wants to be an actress one day. Obviously, she takes her role quite seriously on the show. "I love hyenas because they have very cute cubs," she remarks.
However both girls are fear elephants. "They are very huge and can lose their temper anytime. Once we were filming in the forest when this big guy came charging towards us. We got very scared," says Penny. One animal that the two girls would love to encounter is the tiger. "We have never seen the tiger, but know that it's very beautiful and powerful. Maybe one day we will see them," says Lindy.
Despite being so young, the girls are very aware of the harm that hunting and poaching is causing to the natural diversity of Earth. Lindy remarks, "There are some people who like to kill animals. I want to tell them that animals are innocent and they do not want to hurt you, unless you invade their territory. Please don't kill them."
