Country's premier medical institute All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has achieved another milestone.

In a first of its kind effort, doctors at the AIIMS have rejoined a 10-year-old boy's broken spinal cord.

The boy named as Premchand from Firozabad in UP, suffered massive injury to his spine while playing in a field.

However a lengthy 8-hour-lon operation at AIIMS by a team of doctors guaranteed that he can look forward to life.

One of the doctors of the operation team said that entire spine of the boy was fragmented in two parts. In the beginning, Premchand was given blood and treated with other medicines to prevent meningitis.

Speaking on this, Dr MC Misra, HOD Trauma Centre said, "What I can say is that I have not seen such a case before, in my 35 years of career and in dealing with trauma."

"He also made neurological recovery which was again a surprise for us. I am sure, he has regained 70 per cent power now in the muscles of the girdle and the lower limb," added Dr Misra.

Premchand parents are very happy with their son's progress.

Commenting over her son, Usha Devi (Premchand mother) said that they lost all hope and tied their son back with a cloth and when a hospital in Agra also turned them away, they decided to came to AIIMS.

Meanwhile, Premchand is now wants to go back to his village. He said: "I like running on the treadmill here. It doesn't hurt too much when I walk now. But I am eager to go back to my village.''
