The government of Maharashtra on Sunday decided to extend closure of schools, colleges and multiplexes till August 23 in Pune.

Speaking with the media persons, state chief minister Ashok Chavan said that though the situation in the city had stabilized, but it is yet to come under complete control after the outburst of swine flu that claimed 12 lives in the city.

“No casualty has been reported from the district in the last 48 hours. The situation has stabilized now, but it will take some time for it to come back to normalcy,” said Chavan.

The CM also visited Naidu Hospital, Sassoon Hospital and NIV along with city Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi and Mayor Rajlaxmi Bhosale.

Meanwhile, the situation in Mumbai seems to be improving.

The theatres in the country’s financial and entertainment capital opened after being shut down during the extended weekend as the number of swine flu cases being reported appears to have stabilized.

Health officials felt the muggy weather due to lack of rain may be one of the causes for the swine flu virus not spreading in the city.
