Japan crushes India in ABC
Indian team faced yet another defeat as Japan routed India 108-58 to advance into the semifinals of the 23rd Asian Basketball Championship for women at the JN Indoor Stadium, Chennai on Tuesday.
India was trialing by just one point at the end of first quarter (20-21) but Japanese girls’ stroke back to take lead by 55-31 at the half time. Japan dominated the third and fourth quarters to race away with the match.
Once again, Indian team looked totally dependent on skipper Geetu Anna Jose. Jose scored 30 points to be top scorer of the match. The Japanese trio of Sakurada, Al Mitani and Kumiko Yamada destroyed Indian defense.
Indian team lost all five matches in the tournament to finish at the last spot among the six teams of the Level-I. India will now play against Malaysia for booking their place in the Level-II.
Meanwhile, Chinese-Taipei defeated Thailand 76-66 to book their berth in the semifinals. Japan, Thailand, Korea and China are four teams to clash in the semifinals.
