The swine flu (H1N1) death toll in India has reached to the mark of 344, with the death of 4 more people reported from Maharashtra on Sunday.

Out of these four deaths, two took place on Sunday, while two others succumbed to the deadly virus on Saturday but were officially confirmed on Sunday.

Maharashtra has now reported 139 swine flu deaths - highest in the country.

Apart from this, 56 more persons tested positive for swine flu in the state on Sunday.

Maharashtra was followed by national capital, Delhi (27) and Tamil Nadu (23).

Other states where cases were reported included: Haryana (12), Karnataka (16), Kerala (7), Gujarat (4), Chandigarh and Bihar (two each), and West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh (one each).

The country reported its first H1N1 death in early May from Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh).

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), till September 20, over 3,917 people have succumbed to the virus.
