Solan woman succumbs to H1N1 virus
Binu Gupta, 48, from Himachal Pradesh died due to H1N1 virus at private hospital in Mohali on Sunday evening. She was admitted to hospital on October 16 midnight with swine flu and pneumonia symptoms. But her condition kept on deteriorating and she died on October 18 around 9 am.
As a precautionary measure, 53 people including her relatives and doctors along with paramedical staff who came in contact with the patient have been quarantined in the last 24 hours.
ICU unit where she was kept has been sealed and its patients have been shifted and quarantined.
District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. S P Surila, the swine flu nodal officer in Mohali district, said that after the death, a team from the district health department rushed to the hospital and sealed the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where the victim was kept.
Binu Gupta had been suffering from fever, cold and breathing problems since October 11.
Initially, she took medicines from a family doctor but she was later admitted to Zonal Hospital, Solan, on October 15 as there was no improvement in her condition. Doctors at the hospital kept her under observation for some half an hour then referred her to PGI, Chandigarh but her family admitted her in private hospital in Mohali.
