Music ever planned to save Neela Hauz lake

Neela-Hauz-lakeA citizens group organized a musical event to spread awareness about the drying up of the Neela Hauz lake. The Musical event including musical performances by local residents is being held on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus on Tuesday evening.

The citizens groups and environmentalists say that lake started drying up after an over-bridge was constructed by the Public Welfare Department.

The campaign to save the lake stated in 2008 and the government departments have promised to restore the lake and remove the debris left after the construction. However, there have been no steps from the authorities and the lake is still dry.

The event also includes campaigners with posters on environmental conservation. The aim of the event was to use music to spread the message of environmental protection. Among the performers are participants from Nirmal Jyoti, a Vasant Kunj-based orphanage for mentally and physically challenged girls.

The citizen group includes residents of Vasant Kunj and Mehrauli areas of the national capital. A professor at JNU, Sudha Bhattacharya from the School of Environmental Sciences has said that he will try to initiative a research project on the issue to give momentum to the efforts.
