Atul Sobti steps down as CEO and MD of Ranbaxy

Atul Sobti steps down as CEO and MD of RanbaxyIt was just last year only when Atul Sobti took over as CEO and Managing Director of the Gurgaon based drug maker-Ranbaxy industries. Reportedly, the major reason behind Atul's exit is substantial and basic differences with the management of parent company.

Daiichi Sankyo has even made an announcement of appointment of Arun Sawhney to step up in Sobti's shoes. Sawhney was earlier serving as the President of Ranbaxy's Global Pharmaceuticals Business.

Commenting on his next stint Sobti mentioned that it will surely not be in the pharma sector as per his track record, he has never continued in the same industry.

Further he also mentioned that he would have loved to finish the USFDA issues (of Paonta Sahib and Dewas plants). As these two plants, were banned by the USFDA, because of the issue of non-compliance with manufacturing norms. Much to the extent, that more than 30 generics drugs manufactured at the two plants were banned from the U. S. market in 2008.

Prior joining Ranbaxy, Sobti bought a long experience from India's largest two-wheeler maker, Hero Honda where he spearheaded the sales division of the company.

Sobti will make a formal exit from the company on August 19 and will pass on the baton to the newly appointed MD and CEO.
