Tata Communications to acquire US-based BitGravity
In a press conference today one of India's major communication companies, Tata Communications, conveyed that it has agreed to acquire BitGravity which is a company that provides network for content delivery over the Internet.
The deal happened at an undisclosed price and other details of the entire deal also remained undisclosed. The transaction when completed will be giving, Tata Communication (Netherlands) a 100 percent ownership of BitGravity.
The new company will be operating as a wholly-owned subsidiary of, Tata Communications.
Initially, in 2008 BitGravity and Tata Communications were into a strategic partnership with each other, for licensing content delivery network (CDN) technology and federation of networks of both entities.
An investment of USD 11.5 million was also made in the company. Media, content and gaming companies like NDTV, IAH Games, Quick Heal Technologies and Nimbus Communications have made a successful tract with Tata Communications as it has entered the market with its own global CDN in 2008.
The company is doing a great job as far as the overseas market is concerned, but when it comes to domestic, Tata Communications still needs to get a lot of strategies right.
