Mahindra Satyam agrees to pay $125 million to settle US suit
In 2009, Satyam Computer Services Ltd has committed a fraud expected to exceed over $1.5 billion, in which the company had overstated its earnings and assets for several years.
But now the company has agreed to pay $125 million to settle US shareholders litigation.
The settlement papers were submitted on Wednesday in the US district court of Manhattan, which states that settlement does not cover few individuals including outsourcing company’s founder and former chairman, Ramalinga Raju.
After the disclosure of fraud, shares of Satyam crashed down; leading to the lawsuit and now the company is known as Mahindra Satyam Ltd.
However Satyam’s fraud of misleading the investors about its business performance would be resolved in the settlement made on Wednesday.
As per report submitted by court, the settlement would cover the investors who bought Satyam's ADS in the five years ended Jan. 6, 2009, the day before the mastermind Raju revealed the fraud.
India’s biggest corporate scandal settlement served four institutional investors as lead plaintiffs; the Public Employees' Retirement System of Mississippi, Britain's Mineworkers' Pension Scheme, Norway's Skagen AS, and Denmark's Sampension KP Livsforsikring A/S.
