Bid Farewell to the 25 Paisa Coin

25-paisa-coinIt has been revealed according to a recent report that the 25 paisa coin shall be going out of existence. A little while earlier, the ek (1 paisa), do (2 paisa), teen (3 paisa) coins have already been dismissed, and 25 paisa coin shall soon follow suit.

The RBI has decided that it is time for these ancient value coins to rest in peace. After all, they have served the country well.

The reason for this new development has been revealed as the possible rise in the prices of metal. Once this circulation cycle is over, the highest value coin shall then be the 50 paisa coin. India has had a number of forms of currencies in the past and the old ones kept on going out of use due to some reason or the other, with time.

Ravi Sakhare, who runs a stationery shop near Appa Balwant Chowk, said, "Except vegetables, other food products and services have shown gradual rise in their prices and charges respectively, which slowly diminished the relevance of these coins.

He further added that, “Chocolates or food products used to have prices where such coins could be used; but in other transactions, predominantly at petrol pumps, the coins started getting rejected. The prices of pencils, ball pens and other accessories also rose significantly; hence we had stopped accepting those coins a year ago”.
