Sony asks users to agree to new terms on PSN
Japanese electronics giant, Sony has asked the users of its PlayStation Network (PSN) to agree to the new terms and conditions prepared by the company. Sony has also expressed that it will ban the gamers who do not agree to the amended PSN's terms and conditions.
The users will be asked on their next login to accept the terms and conditions. The company is trying to make users render rights to collectively sue it over future security breaches. Sony faced a major hacking attack earlier this year in which details of 100 million of the PlayStation Network subscribers were breached.
The company had to take the PlayStation Network as well as other services online for several weeks. The company offered compensation to the gamers who were not able to access the services they subscribed to, but still it faced numerous legal challenges by games on the site.
The gamers will now have to deal with an arbitrator picked by Sony, before being able to file a lawsuit. The new clauses, called "Binding Individual Arbitration," state that "any Dispute Resolution Proceedings, whether in arbitration or court, will be conducted only on an individual basis and not in a class or representative action or as a named or unnamed member in a class, consolidated, representative or private attorney general action".
Some blogs have pointed out that very few gamers will be able to realize the changes made in the terms and conditions. They said that gamers will also not notice the 30 day opt out option for the users and will simply click on agree after scrolling to the bottom of the page.
