Nomura Gets Asian Operations Lehman
The Asian operations of US bankrupt investment bank Lehman Brothers is acquired by Japanese financial services major Nomura.
The agreement was signed by the executives of both groups as per the reports of UK daily, Financial Times. Nomura is a leading Tokyo-based company and the largest security firm of Japan.
The financial operations would include investment banking, fixed income and equities of entire Asian region franchise. The South Korean operations of Lehmans would not be covered under the plan on some technical grounds.
This news is very important for the Lehman’s 3,000 staff in Asia. Nomura is also likely to buy some European operation of Lehman. Nomura President Kenichi Watanabe has good opportunity now to start overseas operations. The fall of Lehman changed the economic and financial scenario of the world. It brings a good time for Asian and European firms to get huge market share of the falling bank.
