Notable 42% market share eyed by Sony by fiscal end
For 2010-11 fiscal, Sony India mulls to concentrate on a market share of 48% (higher than the national target of 45%) in compact digital still camera in North. The current fiscal is expected to be concluded by the company with a market share of 42% in Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, J&K and Punjab.
Hirata, product head, Digital Imaging Sony India, "The estimated market size of compact camera segment in North is expected to be around 80,000 in FY 2010-11 and we aim to sell 38,000 units of compact cameras next year. At present, the region contributes 5% to the national sales of the company."
The company is looking forward to increase the number of business partners (cyber shot outlets) from the present 225 to 250 next year.
By FY 2010-11, Compact Camera Segment is predicted to hike by nearly 1.8 million units, which presently is expected at 1.3 million units. The aim of Sony India is to acquire 45% share in the compact camera segment by next fiscal, higher from 42% in FY 2009-10. The market share of the company in compact camera segment was 38% for the year 2008-09.
Next year, Sony will work hard to sell over eight lakh units, higher from 5.5 lakh units in FY 2009-10.
In other developments, Sony has come out with its new product line-up in S, T and W series cyber-shot cameras.
All these latest cameras feature innovative technologies such as 'Sweep Panorama' and HD (High Definition) movie.
Moreover, a 14 mega-pixel resolution is also boasted by most of these cameras, which help to produce sharper and cleaner pictures.
