NTPC to set up two more power projects in Madhya Pradesh

NTPC to set up two more power projects in Madhya PradeshState-owned power giant NTPC has announced its plans to set up two more projects in Madhya Pradesh, NTPC Chairman & Managing Director Arup Roy Choudhury announced on Wednesday.

Mr. Choudhury made the announcement at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Gadarwara power plant. He said two more power plants would be set up at Khargone and Barethi in the state.

He also assured that NTPC would stick to best environmental operational standards while developing the Gadarwara power project.

NTPC is already developing some power projects in Madhya Pradesh, including a 50-MW solar power project at Rajgarh and the 4,260-MW thermal power station at Vindhyachal.

The foundation stone for Gadarwara project was laid down by Union Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. The Gadarwara project will have two units of 800 MW each.

Mr. Scindia said the Gadarwara project would eventually have a generation capacity of 3,200 MW at an estimated investment of around Rs 25,000 crore. This power project will significantly increase the power generation capacity of NTPC, which currently has an installed generation capacity of around 42,464 MW.

Half of the power generated from the Gadarwara plant would be supplied to companies and households in Madhya Pradesh, while the remaining half would be supplied to other states in the Western region.
