NTT's annual net profit down 15.2 per cent

NTTTokyo - Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp (NTT) on Wednesday reported a 15.2-per-cent drop in net profit for the past fiscal year as the global financial turmoil led to a decrease in exports and production.

Japan's largest communications and information company saw its net profit fall to 538.68 billion yen (5.55 billion dollars) for the business year that ended March 31, but its profit was still the largest among listed Japanese companies, the Kyodo News Agency said.

Operating profit dipped 14.9 per cent from the previous year to 1.11 trillion yen, and sales were down 2.5 per cent to 10.42 trillion yen, NTT said.

For the current fiscal year, NTT said it expected net profit to decline 14.6 per cent to 460 billion yen, operating profit to remain unchanged and sales to fall 1.1 per cent to 10.3 trillion yen. (dpa)
